Monday 24th April : Prestbury Manor Court Rolls
Join us at 7:30pm on Monday 24th April at the Prestbury WI Hall.
The subject for the meeting on April 24 is ‘Prestbury Manor Court Rolls’. There are over a hundred rolls dating back to the 14th century held at Gloucestershire Archives. All except those from 1733 to 1871 are in Latin! This presentation by Norman Baker will cover the history of the Rolls and some of the information gained from the entries from 1733. The accounts shed light on the lives of the villagers, village ways, customs and places.
The presentation will be followed by tea & coffee and the launch of out new book Prestbury Past & Present : Volume 2. There will be an opportunity to chat to the author after his talk and have your copy signed.

Prestbury Past & Present : Volume 2 By Norman J Baker
Prestbury is a delightful village in a very attractive setting. It is well known to millions of people because of its famous race course, Prestbury Park, yet its history is little explored.
Volume 2 in the Prestbury Past & Present series contains four studies. The first is ‘An Exploration Into the Beginning and Early Development of the Village of Prestbury’ and covers the period of transition from a Saxon estate in the possession of the Bishops of Hereford to a village with nine large open fields.
Secondly a study of the history of Home Farm which the author links with the Home Farm of the 13th century moated Manor House. The third study is of Lower Mill the oldest of the two mills which were once operating in Prestbury. The fourth study is a fairly detailed account of the nine open fields, their boundaries and history.
The book will be launched at the meeting of the Prestbury Local History Society on April 24th at the W.I. Hall in Prestbury. The book costs £10. Copies are available at the regular meetings of Prestbury Local History Society, from the author, or by post (add £2.50 p&p) via email to: prestburyhistory@gmail.com

Prestbury: Past & Present Vol. 1
NEW PUBLICATION!
We are excited to be introducing our new publication Prestbury: Past & Present Vol. 1, which is the beginning of a series of volumes. We are very pleased to have Michael Cole as author of the first in the series, with his depth of knowledge of Prestbury local history and his experience in writing articles and books in the United Kingdom and overseas.
Copies can be purchased for £10 at our meetings or from:

Change to Programme

Just a reminder that we don’t have a talk during March but will have two meetings in April instead. Our next talk will be MONDAY April 4th at 7:30pm at the WI Hall.
Notice of AGM February 22nd at 7:30pm
TO ALL MEMBERS OF PRESTBURY LOCAL HISTORY SOCIETY.
The Annual General Meeting of the Society will take place on February 22nd at the W.I. Hall at 7.30pm. The business of the AGM usually only takes about 20 minutes and is then followed by a presentation. In this case our Chairman, Tony Noel, will be sharing with us the research he has been doing into the history of the post in Prestbury.
You are reminded that nominations for the Committee must be in writing, signed by the nominee, and given to the Secretary at least seven days before the meeting. Propositions concerning the affairs of the Society (except amendments to the Constitution – see Constitution Item 13) should, when possible, be notified to the Secretary in advance of the meeting.
The proposed revised version of the constitution is attached to this email. The changes to the existing constitution are clarifications and corrections.
