Michael Cole will be presenting at the next meeting of the Prestbury Local History Society in the W.I. Hall. It will take place on Monday 26th February at 7.30 pm.
The topic is ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’.
Michael has kindly provided an introduction to his talk:
In the early years of Queen Victoria’s reign two people owned a large proportion of Prestbury, and their ownership has had a lasting effect on the look of the village. In this presentation we examine how Susanna Capel and John Edwards, neither of whom was born in Prestbury, came to inherit their estates. Strangely, the trail leads us to four weddings and a funeral in the distant village of King’s Stanley near Stroud.
A fascinating topic from an experienced local history researcher which will provide a valuable insight to two local families.
Our AGM will take place at our March meeting. If you would like to nominate a member to join the committee or would like to enquire about the role, then please contact the society via email on prestburyhistory@gmail.com
